The Owners of Candy High are still on a high after her super performance to record her first win at the all important Seymour Puckapunyal Cup meeting on Sunday. Starting the short priced favourite in the Seymour Toyota Group Maiden over 1400m, the filly settled in a lovely position after beginning well from the barrier but mid race found herself shuffled back through the field and looking in an awkward position. With a wall of horses in front of her and no where to go in the home straight, Jockey Logan Bates found an opening along the rail and the filly shot through to take the lead with less than 100m of the race to go. In the end she won comfortably on the line to score by 0.75L x 1L to the minor placegetters.
Candy High by Highland Reel from Evil Lil, is a third generation filly bred and raced by Tony and Sue Schneider and trained by the Hope Racing team. Originating in 2006 was her grandmother, Evil Tricks, a handy race mare who was a prolific metropolitan placegetter during her career. Retired to stud she produced Evil Lil her only foal who was another extremely talented although quirky mare. Winning four races with eight placings she was always competitve and her winning photo from Pakenham is the feature picture on our home page of our website. Sadly Candy High is the only live foal from Evil Lil and hopefully she will continue the family legacy in the years to come.
Along with Tony and Sue Schneider, the filly races in similar interests to her dam, Evil Lil and a big party of Owners were present to witness the filly winning her Maiden. Pictured are Kevin and Sue Davey, Colin and Jenny Gibson, Kevin, Maree and Ashley Cook with Rhonda Allen in the new winners enclosure. Also sharing in the ownership group are John Allen, Phil Schneider, Peter Walsh and Carol Shinn.
