Much needed rain not only was welcomed by country Victoria but also by four-year-old gelding Cameron Falls. The Hope team duo of Lee and Shannon particularly planned to have the gelding geared up for a Winter racing campaign being by wet track specialist Sacred Falls but the wet tracks were looking very ominous. Thankfully the weather finally turned and rain came in time for the Ballarat meeting on Sunday with track conditions initially presenting in the Heavy range. The next issue faced by the training team was whether Cameron Falls would gain a start after being relegated to sixth emergency in the Hygain BM70 Handicap over 1400m. Carrying saddlecloth No. 20, a call was received right on scratching closing time to advise he had gained a run and Jett Stanley was engaged for the ride. The horse broke the barriers well and after initially settling in a three wide position, Jett decided to let the horse stride to the front rather than be posted wide. A decision which paid off as the horse showed terrific determinaton to fight of all challengers over the concluding stages of the race.

A very consistent performer thus far in his short career, the geldings formline now reads 2 wins, 3 seconds, 3 thirds from only 12 starts. A $190,000 purchase from the renowned New Zealand Ready to Run Sale he boosts a pedigree which includes some famous names in the Australasian racing and breeding. His grand-dam, Grand Echezeaux, a SAJC Gr 1 Australasian Oaks winner is the dam of champion two and three old galloper, Darci Brahma and her 3/4 sister Romanee Conti is the dam of Melbourne Cup winner, Ethereal. He has a pedigree full of stakes winners and is by one of the last crops of Champion racehorse and Sire, Sacred Falls. After a paddock accident halted his early three-year-old career he is now coming of age and hopefully he continues to build on his consistent record over the next few months and reaches the heights he is bred to do.

The cold weather didn’t stop the Davey family representative Brendan and his children from attending the Ballarat meeting and are pictured alongside Co-Trainer Lee with Cameron Falls. The highlight for the children was receiving the winning goggles from jockey, Jett Stanley.
