Supre made amends with a Saturday metropolitan victory at Caulfield yesterday after a narrow and unlucky defeat last start at headquarters. She put the writing on the wall and by landing in the perfect spot in transit from the get go she was always going to be terribly hard to beat. A super confident ride by Apprentice “Ethan Brown”, brings him a step closer to outriding his metropolitan claim with only 5 more wins to go to reach this milestone.
The progressive High Chaparral mare made his job easy and pair combined to record their second win from as many rides. The lightly raced mare owned by Alpara Lodge is building an impressive record from her only nine race starts with three wins and four seconds to elevate her prizemoney earnings to over $135K.
Co-Trainer Shannon overseeing the Caulfield team of runners yesterday said
“Ethan came out on a mission and said there was a spot one out one back and he was taking it. He rode her accordingly and was a very good ride. We are hoping she can reach Black Type level and will see after today what her handicap rating is and possibly raise the bar.”
The team may plan an attack on the early Autumn stakes races for mares kicking off with either the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes or Frances Tressady followed by the Group 3 Matron Stakes over a mile. With previous success in these races by former stable mares, Madam Gangster and placings with Choose it is not beyond Supre to measure up to this level.
The stable nearly recorded a double with a gutsy performance by Prima to lead all the way in Race 6 and unfortunately was just nailed prior to the finish line. Rated to perfection in front by Tahlia, the pint size gelding fought to the end and it took all the reserves of promising galloper, Black Sail to get past him. Lining up for his third run back and nearing peak fitness Prima will be force to reckon with once he gets out to his pet distances. In the following race Tahlia turned the tables with a last to first ride on the Patrick Payne trained Lamborghini to showcase her versatility and stamp her name as an apprentice to follow.
