A smart move by the Hope Racing team to send Baracca’s Choice over the border to Corowa paid dividends with the filly romping in to record an effortless Maiden win. Faced by the possibility of always being in the ballots due to three unplaced Victorian runs, the plan was hatched by Shannon to send the well bred filly over the border where she had more chance to get a start. Lining up in the Corowa Distilling Company Maiden over 1400m, stable jockey Cory Parish took any bad luck out of the equation and surged the filly to the front and rated her pertfectly in the lead. In a foreign role out in front the filly did a super job and always had the race under her control. She was eased down towards the finish to score by two lengths to the runner up, Flutterby with a further 1.5L to the third placegetter, Majestic Deel.

The filly has taken time to mature and in the post race interview, Shannon conceded –

“The team may have over thought it and raced her six months too early due to her being worth a lot of money. Actually it was quite surprising how well she did it and hopefully she will go on with it now”

Bred in the purple by Champion Sire, Fastnet Rock from Group 1 winning mare, Savvy Coup it is imperative a filly of her breeding quality has a win against her name for her pedigree page regardless of venue. Purchased from the Inglis Easter Sale by Colm Santry on behalf of Greg and Jenny White, the impeccably bred filly will form part of their future broodmare band under the Alpara Lodge banner.
