Blue Diamond Stakes was the feature meeting on Saturday with the team well represented at Caulfield in the Group races but little ‘Beach Fighter” saved the day winning at the P2 meeting at Yarra Valley. She made it back to back wins for stable after winning her maiden at Werribee in January. In her usual style of racing, the Churchill Downs mare began brilliantly from barrier 5 to settle in the lead. A challenge came but apprentice, Tahlia Hope held her ground on the 5YO mare and rallied around the corner to kick clear and hold on for a narrow victory in the Pezzimenti Trenchless 58 handicap over 1000m.

Since joining the stables, Beach Fighter and Tahlia are building an impressive strike rate together for 2 wins and 2 seconds from 4 starts. Placed in the right grade the combination should continue to enjoy success on the provincial circuit.

Even though we didn’t have a winner at Caulfield our team performed brilliant with Fenway finishing 2nd in the Gr 2 Peter Young Stakes in her lead up towards the Australian Cup. In the featured Gr 1 Oakleigh Plate “Pittsburgh Flyer” ran a career best beaten a whisker for 3rd under Jye McNeil and Choose finished 8th in the Gr 3 Mannerism Stakes. She will back up in the Gr 3 Frances Tressady Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, a race won by the stable with Madam Gangster last year.
