Locally trained gelding Camp Cable capped off his recent good form to record his first win at the Seymour Racing Clubs opening meeting on Friday for the new 2025/2026 racing season. The Cable Bay gelding rewarded his connections patience as he kicked off his current campaign with a win and two minor placings from his only three race starts since joining the Hope Racing stable in March.

Displaying an affinity for rain effected tracks the four-year-old gelding relished the soft six conditions under the guidance of jockey, Cory Parish. After showing his customary brilliant beginning from the barriers, there was a rush from several opponents to find forward positions resulting in Camp Cable forced to take a sit off the pace. Run at a good tempo throughout, the horse got shuffled back further than anticipated and looked to be in a hopeless position approaching the home turn. Cory had to be bide his time until an opening appeared and eventually bought the horse to the outside in the home straight. The horse dug deep and made up plenty of ground to finish on strongly to score by a neck (0.46L) on the line from runner up Bangalow Road.

Bred by Patricia Howard and Robert Carkeek, principals of Kaylan Park, their excitement and enjoyment was evident post interview with Racing.com. A lovely looking horse, Camp Cable hails from the famous Tennessee family, a prolific family of winners and based on his bloodlines this should hold him in good stead for the future. Pictured in the winners enclosure are Patricia and Rob with SRC representative, Cooper Lubeck.
