Enigmatic mare Inez broke through for another win at the Kyneton meeting on Thursday. With the aid of an one-eyed blinker and stepping out in distance to the 1850m for the first time, the four-old mare was given a perfect ride by inform jockey, Cory Parish. Drawing the outside barrier in the twelve horse field, the impeccably bred mare by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, began like lightning and comfortably crossed the field to find the lead in the first 400m of the race. Choosing to take cover, jockey Cory Parish slowed the tempo in front anticipating another runner would take up the lead which panned out perfectly for the mare to take a sit behind the leader and relax in transit. Approaching the home turn the mare was able to come off the rail and quickly take over the lead and quickened nicely to the finish line to score by 0.35L to the runner up placegetter.
Beautiully bred mare, Inez is raced by Alpara Lodge principals, Greg and Jenny White, who purchased the mare from the Inglis Easter sale in 2022 on the recommendation of Coolmore agent, Colm Santry. From the High Chaparral mare, Bring Me Roses a winner of the Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes (2000m) and runner up in the VRC Oaks Gr 1, the staying qualities are in her blood especially combined with her sire, Fastnet Rock. His female progeny tend to get better with age and no better example at present is the Champion eight time Group 1 winning seven-year-old mare Via Sistina. Inez hasn’t been the most straight forward mare to train and the team are hoping they have found the key by stretching her out in distance and her breeding genes come to the fore.
