Talented three-year-old filly “Spirit of Jo” showed her class and stamina with a superb effort at the Kilmore mid week meeting held on Friday. Stepping out in distance in the MC Labour BM64 over 1450m, the daughter of Impending initially settled back towards the tail of the field and in a flash circled the field to take over the lead after passing the 1000m mark. A smart decision by Jockey Jarrod Fry to make a tactical move mid race paid dividends with the filly careering away for a dominant victory on the line with margins 1.75L x 1.25L to the minor placgetters including her stable mate, Inez finishing in third position.
The fillies main aim this preparation has been the Vobis Platinum Guineas for 3YO’s over 1600m for a lucrative $500K on offer in prizemoney and set down for the Caulfield meeting on March 15. By Impending from Forjo, she really needed to win at Kilmore to warrant lining up and based on her performance the extra distance will be to her liking.
The lighty raced filly was bred and is raced by long time stable clients, Kevin Muprhy with Pat and Suzie De Kretser who raced her dam Forjo and grand-dam Showstoppa. The rest of the partnership is formed with friends of the late Joanne Murphy joining together to race the progeny of Forjo and they will be out in force cheering on Spirit of Jo come March 15.
