Pittsburgh Flyer claims the Gr3 “Mumm Stakes”
Deceased stallion Street Cry (IRE) continued his amazing run of success this spring in Melbourne when the Lee and Shannon Hope-trainedPittsburgh Flyer came down the outside fence to claim Thursday’s Group III GH Mumm Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.
Ridden by James McDonald, Pittsburgh Flyer defeated Dublin Lass by a long neck with Brook Road back in third.
“She’s a lovely mare, it’s the first time I’ve ever sat on her,” McDonald said.
“They gave me strict instructions about not going too early and I probably still got there a bit early. She’s a lovely mare and I have to thank the Hope family, they’ve been very good to me.”
It was the second stakes win for the consistent 4yo daughter of Street Cry who defeated the top-class Earthquake in a Listed race at Flemington back in March. She advances her overall record to 3 wins and 3 thirds from 12 starts for earnings of $243,950.
A homebred for Greg & Jenny White’s “Alpara Lodge”, Pittsburgh Flyer is the best of three winners from Champion South African 2YO Filly Warning Zone (SAF), who won the Group II Greyville Golden Slipper.
